Roborock’s latest floor scrubber, the A30 Pro Steam 2.0, tries to tackle one of the most stubborn cleaning challenges: combining deep steam cleaning with powerful suction in a smart, space-savvy design. Priced at around $480, it offers some robust specs, but how much better is it really than what’s already on the market?

The A30 Pro Steam 2.0 boasts hefty suction at 25,000Pa-enough to tackle dust, liquid spills, and debris on hard floors. But what sets it apart is its active steam technology, generating steam at 180°C to not only clean stains but also sanitize surfaces effectively. It even uses a 90°C hot water mode for less intense cleaning tasks. And to keep everything squeaky clean, it sterilizes the roller brush and its pathways with steam and dries them out with hot air, which could finally put an end to that gross mildew smell floor scrubbers sometimes develop.

Streamlining the cleaning experience, the scrubber has a slim profile-just 12.5cm thick-to squeeze under furniture and tight spots. AI sensors adjust the cleaning intensity by detecting dirt levels, while dual-direction assist eases pushing and pulling motions, aiming to make manual operation less of a drag.

Roborock has also baked in smart features like app control, letting users set cleaning schedules, monitor dirt collection, and even track upkeep. The automatic detergent dispenser adapts how much cleaning liquid it uses and can go about a month without needing a refill. On battery life, a 6,300mAh cell powers up to 100 minutes of cleaning, covering up to a generous 500 square meters on a single charge.

For pet owners, there’s a dual shark-tooth anti-tangle brush designed to minimize hair wrap, a welcome touch given how quickly pet hair can gum up machines like these. However, the real question is whether these features justify the $480 price tag when plenty of robot vacuum and mop combos offer multifunction cleaning at lower costs.

Roborock isn’t just focusing on floor scrubbers. It’s also rolled out washer-dryer combos with super hydrolysis tech and robot vacuums boasting up to 35,000Pa suction and AI obstacle avoidance. This diversified push shows the brand doubling down on automation and higher suction power, trying to stand out in a crowded market that’s rapidly evolving.

The challenge for Roborock is convincing buyers that a dedicated steam scrubber offers enough advantages over hybrid robot mops and vacuums-especially as competitors like Ecovacs and Bissell throw data-driven smart features and powerful suction into their offerings, too. Plus, the increased complexity of steam integration adds a maintenance aspect that some users might shy away from.

Looking ahead, it will be interesting to see if the next wave of floor cleaners truly blends high-powered suction with smart, multipurpose cleaning systems, or if we’ll keep buying separate devices for vacuuming and scrubbing. Roborock’s A30 Pro Steam is a solid entrant, but the ultimate test will be how it performs in everyday messy homes-and whether consumers want an AI-enhanced scrubber in addition to or instead of robot vacuums that mop.
