Samsung appears to have settled on the name Galaxy Buds On for its upcoming clip-on wireless earbuds, ditching earlier rumors about the Galaxy Able. These earbuds won’t sit inside the ear canal but will instead clip onto the ear’s outer edge, offering an open-ear design.

Insider Dy, who spotted the new name, also revealed the earbuds’ model number: SM-U600. This is noteworthy because Samsung’s previous Galaxy Buds typically used the SM-Rxxx series. For example, the Galaxy Buds FE were tagged SM-R400. This different coding hints that Samsung may be launching a distinct product line, not just another iteration of its standard true wireless stereo (TWS) buds.

Galaxy Buds On clip-on design and bone conduction technology

The defining feature of the Galaxy Buds On, according to leaks, is their clip-on design that grips the outer rim of the ear rather than fitting inside the canal. There’s also speculation that the earbuds might use bone conduction technology-a significant shift for Samsung, which has so far focused on in-ear buds with active noise cancellation.

Comparison to other open-ear wireless earbuds

This clip-on or ”open-ear” style isn’t new globally. Huawei launched its FreeClip earbuds late last year, and Bose offers the Ultra Open Earbuds, both designed to rest outside the ear canal. These open designs sacrifice noise isolation in favor of comfort and situational awareness-letting you stay connected to your surroundings while listening to audio. Samsung’s move reflects a growing segment targeting users tired of traditional in-ear ”earplug” styles.

Release timing and Samsung’s new wireless earbuds strategy

As for release timing, details remain unclear. The source suggests the Galaxy Buds On won’t debut at Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event on July 22, 2026. Instead, Samsung may unveil them separately later, following a pattern of staggered accessory launches apart from flagship phone announcements.

This shift toward clip-on and possibly bone conduction earbuds shows Samsung exploring alternatives to the crowded in-ear TWS market dominated by Apple, Samsung itself, and others. How well the Galaxy Buds On will compete against Huawei’s FreeClip or Bose’s open-ear models remains to be seen. However, this marks Samsung’s first clear step into open-ear wearables, signaling a potential trend toward earbuds that balance audio quality with situational awareness.
