No Rest for the Wicked has sold 2 million copies on Steam while still in early access-a major milestone for Moon Studios, best known for its Ori series. This marks the studio’s first foray away from metroidvania titles into a tougher action RPG with Dark Souls-style combat and loot reminiscent of Diablo. The full version is scheduled to launch on PC and PlayStation 5 in October 2026.

The developers announced this sales milestone on the evening of July 7. The game’s growth accelerated over time: it took until mid-January 2025 to reach its first million copies sold, then just three weeks later hit 1.5 million, and another five months to reach 2 million sales on Steam.

Launched in April 2024 as an early access title, No Rest for the Wicked is on track for a 27-month development cycle before the 1.0 release. For a single-player premium action RPG with no multiplayer, these numbers are impressive-especially considering the game has weathered contentious updates and balance tweaks along the way. Currently, the game holds over 63,000 reviews on Steam with an 81% positive rating. Its peak concurrent player count nearly touched 63,000, setting a new record for Moon Studios.

The story unfolds on the island of Sacra, where the protagonist navigates political power struggles and battles the Corruption-a force turning people into monsters. The October 2026 launch will cover PC and PS5 platforms, while Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series X/S versions have been postponed indefinitely. The game currently sells on Steam for 1,190 rubles (~$15) as part of a limited-time promotion ending July 9, 2024.

Moon Studios’ last full release was Ori and the Will of the Wisps in 2020, a different style of game altogether. No Rest for the Wicked represents a bold shift into a much harder, more complex RPG formula. Its success in early access shows promise, but the true test lies in October 2026, when it officially releases and debuts on consoles beyond PC. How gamers receive this new direction will be a key indicator of where Moon Studios goes next.
