Vivo is reportedly gearing up to launch the Vivo V80 this August, packing a hefty 7200mAh battery, if a leak from insider Sanju Choudhary holds true. The focus seems clear: boost battery life significantly while keeping the core hardware largely the same.

The Vivo V series follows a biannual refresh cycle, and the V80 looks set to continue that tradition. The new model is expected to feature a 6.59-inch flat AMOLED display-the same size as the Vivo V70-but with an upgraded 144Hz refresh rate, up from 120Hz. That higher refresh rate means smoother visuals and gaming experiences, enabling compatible titles to run at up to 144 frames per second.

Under the hood, expect familiar territory. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chipset is rumored to return, powering the V80 just like it did the previous two models. Performance improvements from the V60 to V70 were modest-around a 14% boost in multi-core Geekbench scores and almost no change in single-core results-so Vivo appears to be prioritizing screen quality, battery capacity, and fast charging over raw processing power.

Vivo V80 specifications

  • 6.59-inch flat AMOLED display, 144Hz refresh rate
  • Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 processor
  • 7200mAh battery
  • 90W wired charging with bypass charging support
  • 50MP main camera + 50MP telephoto lens with 3x zoom
  • 8MP ultrawide camera
  • 50MP front-facing camera

Camera specs reportedly mirror those of the Vivo V70, featuring a 50MP main sensor, a 50MP telephoto shooter with 3x optical zoom, an 8MP ultrawide camera, and a 50MP selfie camera. No details about sensor sizes, lens quality, or image processing tweaks have surfaced yet-areas where real improvements usually show up between generations.

Another intriguing detail: the V80 may be a rebranded version of the Chinese Vivo S60, released earlier this year. Both phones share nearly identical specs, barring the chipset. The S60 uses the higher-end Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, while the international V80 would stick with the more modest Snapdragon 7 Gen 4. This strategy-reusing hardware but swapping chips by region-is common for BBK Electronics, Vivo’s parent company. It lets them tailor products for different markets and price brackets without redesigning devices.

If confirmed, the Vivo V80 will join a growing wave of midrange and upper-midrange phones pushing battery capacities beyond 7000mAh. While just a few years ago such huge batteries were mostly found in niche ”battery monster” phones, now larger cells are increasingly common in Chinese smartphones above the midtier level. This contrasts sharply with most iPhones and Samsung Galaxy devices, which still hover around 4000-5000mAh. The real question is whether Vivo can maintain a slim profile and keep heat manageable with that sizable battery and 90W charging speeds. That answer should become clear when the phone launches, presumably this August.
