Nothing has rolled out the last update for the Nothing Phone (1), officially closing its software support chapter. The update itself is low-key: a July 2026 security patch and a few minor fixes, but it marks the end of the promised update period set back in 2022 when the phone launched.
The Phone (1) debuted with Android 12 and went through three major OS upgrades, culminating in Android 15. Alongside this final firmware release, Nothing ends four years of security patch support. On its community forum, the company confirmed the device is reaching the ”end of its software lifecycle,” meaning no more updates-not even critical security patches-will arrive.
Nothing also reminded users of a common update-side effect: the phone may heat up and drain battery faster immediately after installation. This happens because the system rebuilds background processes and reindexes data post-update. Usually, the device stabilizes within a few hours.
Nothing Phone (1) software support compared to competitors
Back in 2022, the Phone (1)’s ”3 Android versions and 4 years of patches” policy was competitive, roughly matching what Google and Samsung offered for mid-range devices then. But the update period has shifted significantly since. Google now guarantees seven years of support for Pixel 8 and newer models. Samsung extended Galaxy S24 flagship updates to the same seven years. Meanwhile, Nothing’s own Phone (3) launched with a commitment to five major Android upgrades plus seven years of security patches.
What the end of software support means for Nothing Phone (1) users
The Phone (1) itself won’t suddenly stop working-it will run as usual-but it won’t receive fixes for any security vulnerabilities discovered from here on out. For those still holding onto this first-generation Nothing phone, it’s a good time to reconsider how long you can safely go without new security updates. Android support periods have clearly stretched since the Phone (1) came out.
