Russia’s Avito has launched shared profile access, allowing account owners to grant others permission to manage listings and chat without handing over login details. This feature targets common scenarios where family members, partners, or employees assist with sales.
The system works by linking two verified profiles. Once the invite is accepted, the helper can post and edit ads and respond to buyers in chat. Crucially, the original account owner retains full control over sensitive info-passwords, personal data, verification status, settings, and account deletion remain inaccessible to helpers.
Avito tracks every action taken by the helper, and owners can revoke access instantly without contacting support. The shared access option is accessible next to the profile via a plus button, where owners send an invitation link. All shared connections are managed through a dedicated ”Connections” section on both the website and updated mobile apps.
How Avito’s shared profile access improves account security
Effectively, Avito is formalizing a practice that has been common on the platform-multiple people handling one profile. While professional sellers often use shared access, this rollout aims to extend the feature to everyday users who rarely had such options before.
Potential impact of Avito’s shared profile feature on users
With over 70 million monthly users according to Avito’s data, this seemingly modest feature could gain rapid traction. If successful, Avito might introduce more granular controls in the future, such as restricting helpers to only manage chats or specific listings.
