Xiaomi is reportedly gearing up to unveil the next major version of its operating system shell, HyperOS 4, as early as August. According to Chinese insiders, the update will focus less on visual tweaks and more on system overhaul, AI integration, and faster performance across compatible Xiaomi devices.
Sources suggest HyperOS 4 will debut alongside the Xiaomi 18 series or the company’s upcoming foldable smartphone. Following the launch, Xiaomi is expected to roll out the update to its current flagship lineup and select Redmi models.
HyperOS 4 system rebuild with Rust and Flutter
One of the most intriguing aspects revealed in leaks is the system’s architecture. Xiaomi allegedly rebuilt core components of HyperOS 4 using Rust and Flutter, completely ditching the old MIUI codebase. While this might not excite end users directly, it means less legacy baggage, smoother animations, and lower background memory consumption.
Performance improvements in HyperOS 4
The performance gains look substantial. Insiders claim HyperOS 4 will boost overall smoothness by around 40%, improve app retention in the background by 35%, and reduce standby RAM usage by 25-30%. Another promising stat: after a year of use, performance degradation could be limited to just 5%.
New Liquid Glass design and ecosystem integration
Visually, HyperOS 4 is said to adopt a Liquid Glass design style with softer 2.5D effects. Users may get at least two interface modes: ”Transparent” and ”Soft.” Xiaomi is also sharpening its ecosystem strategy, aiming for tighter integration between smartphones, tablets, smart home gear, and cars.
- File transfers could speed up by as much as 300% between compatible devices
- App continuity across screens should feel much smoother
Enhanced local AI features in HyperOS 4
Local AI features will play a bigger role too. HyperOS 4 may embed models like Mimo and the Miclaw agent to handle tasks on-device without cloud reliance-think document summarization, translation, and image editing. Xiaomi’s move mirrors efforts by Google, Apple, Samsung, and Huawei, all pushing AI processing onto devices to boost speed and privacy.
HyperOS 4’s role in Xiaomi’s unified platform strategy
This release marks a significant step for Xiaomi after dropping the MIUI brand name. Launched in 2023 alongside the Xiaomi 14, HyperOS aims to unify phones, tablets, TVs, cars, and smart home devices into a single platform. If the August launch happens, the real test will be how well these promises hold up across mass-market models, not just the flashy flagships showcased at past events.
