BYD just launched its new flagship sedan, the Seal 08, on the Chinese market with a starting price of 197,000 yuan-about 2.3 million rubles or roughly $27,000. The car stretches over 5.15 meters long and offers a premium feel with features like pneumatic suspension, a fully steerable chassis, and BYD’s proprietary ”Eye of God” level B autopilot system. Available in six trims, the Seal 08 comes in both a hybrid DM-i version and a fully electric variant.

The Seal 08 slots into the large sedan segment, noticeably outsizing the Toyota Camry. While the Camry measures about 4.92 meters long with a 2,825 mm wheelbase, BYD’s new sedan stretches 5,150 mm with a 3,030 mm wheelbase. Beyond sheer size, BYD positions the Seal 08 as an almost premium offering priced for mass-market buyers.
Styling follows BYD’s Ocean Aesthetics 2.0 design language, featuring a closed front grille area, revamped LED headlights, and a full-width rear light strip. Inside, the tech loadout is generous: a 15.6-inch central touchscreen, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, an impressive 26-inch AR heads-up display, BYD’s DiLink infotainment system, AI voice assistant, wireless charging, a built-in refrigerator, and a dedicated rear-seat entertainment screen. Even base trims come with highway and city driving assist, as well as automatic and remote parking.

BYD Seal 08 pricing and market positioning
- Price range: 197,000 to 240,000 yuan (approx. $27,000 to $33,000)
- Tesla Model 3 starts around 231,900 yuan in China
- Xiaomi SU7 starts at approximately 215,900 yuan
The Seal 08 targets buyers looking for a spacious, well-equipped ”executive” sedan rather than a compact sporty model. Its pricing offers competitive positioning in China’s EV-heavy sedan segment, combining premium features with mass-market affordability.
Compared to the Toyota Camry, BYD’s Seal 08 delivers larger dimensions, higher power output, and richer features at a similar or lower price point. The Camry relies on brand legacy but struggles to match the Seal 08’s performance and technology.
BYD’s Seal 08 challenges traditional sedan models by combining strong performance, long electric range, and advanced tech at a price that could disrupt both internal combustion and electric competitors in China’s highly competitive automotive market. Its success may influence future designs and pricing strategies across the broader global electric vehicle industry.
