McMurtry Automotive has unveiled the production version of its Spéirling PURE electric hypercar, designed specifically for the track. Assembled at the company’s new facility in the Cotswolds, England, the car is now ready for customers, boasting a blistering 0-60 mph sprint in just 1.55 seconds. Even more impressive is its ability to generate up to 2,000 kg of downforce from a standstill. With a price tag approaching £1 million, owning a Spéirling PURE is less about daily driving and more about pushing electronic track performance boundaries.

Compared to earlier prototypes, McMurtry replaced or redesigned around 95% of the car’s parts. The silhouette remains recognizable, but new open fan ducts dominate the rear. This setup helps the Spéirling literally clamp itself to the asphalt almost immediately, rather than relying on speed to generate downforce-a departure from electric hypercars like the Rimac Nevera or Lotus Evija, which rely more on high-speed aerodynamics.

The interior and overall architecture stick close to the prototype but with a clear push to make the Spéirling PURE more accessible and user-friendly. For a track-focused hypercar, that’s critical-these cars spend far more time being transported and serviced than tearing laps, so McMurtry prioritized usability beyond raw speed.

McMurtry Spéirling PURE electric hypercar specs

  • Power: 1,000 horsepower driving rear wheels
  • Battery: 100 kWh using Molicel cells
  • 0-60 mph acceleration: 1.55 seconds
  • Top speed: 190 mph (approx. 306 km/h)
  • Downforce: up to 2,000 kg from standstill
  • Lateral and braking G-forces: up to 3g

Spéirling PURE’s 0-60 mph time of 1.55 seconds outpaces the Rimac Nevera’s 1.74 seconds and the Aspark Owl’s claimed 1.72 seconds. However, McMurtry’s approach is distinct-focusing less on high-speed aerodynamics and more on cornering stability and immediate downforce. This makes it a unique contender in the electric hypercar arena, which is still dominated by high-profile players like Rimac and Lotus.

The McMurtry brand isn’t new to the scene. Its Spéirling prototype wowed spectators at the Goodwood Festival of Speed with record-breaking runs, outperforming many cars with far deeper racing pedigrees. Now the production Spéirling PURE shifts from prototype spectacle to a product aimed at a very niche, affluent group of buyers craving track-day dominance in an electric package.

Price and availability of the McMurtry Spéirling PURE

The Spéirling PURE will make its public debut from July 9-12 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, followed by a production reveal at The Quail on August 14. Deliveries are slated to begin later in 2026.

Pricing for the McMurtry Spéirling PURE is as follows:

  • Base price: £995,000 before taxes, shipping, and customizations (approximately $1.3 million)
  • Extensive personalization options available

The ultra-expensive electric hypercar segment remains small but vibrant. Rimac leads with its high-end models, Pininfarina delivered a limited-run Battista, and Lotus continues refining the Evija. McMurtry takes an interesting angle by focusing on near-race cars meant for track days rather than road dominance. How well the Spéirling PURE will resonate with buyers remains unclear until deliveries and live runs at Goodwood in late 2026.

Electric hypercars continue pushing the envelope of what electric propulsion can achieve on the track, balancing mind-bending acceleration with advanced aerodynamics and handling. McMurtry’s radical focus on instant downforce rather than top-speed aero finesse sets it apart. As these niche machines proliferate, it will be fascinating to see which approach becomes the gold standard for the next generation of track-focused EV hypercars.
