Xiaomi has opened preorders for the Mijia Smart Electric Kettle Pro 5L, a connected thermopot for people who want hot water less like a guess and more like a setting. The device starts at 699 yuan, drops to 669 yuan on preorder, and falls to about 568.65 yuan, or $83, with subsidies in China.
The pitch is straightforward: better temperature control, quieter operation, and tighter integration with Mi Home. That is a familiar Xiaomi formula, but the company is leaning hard on the kind of details that matter in kitchens rather than spec sheets, because water that is evenly heated is a lot more useful than water that merely sounds premium.
Active water circulation and 1°C temperature control
The headline feature is an ”active water circulation” system designed to keep temperature consistent across the tank. Xiaomi says that after 30 minutes of holding heat, the difference between the top and bottom layers stays within ±2°C, and the function can be switched on through the Mi Home app.
That app control goes beyond a simple on-off timer. Users can set temperature in 1°C increments and schedule heating in advance, which puts this model closer to a smart appliance than a basic kettle with a Bluetooth sticker attached.
316L steel, removable tank, and quieter operation
Inside, Xiaomi uses a seamless 316L food-grade stainless steel tank, with all water-contact parts made from food-grade materials. The thermopot also includes a removable reservoir, electronic water-level monitoring, and a dual noise-reduction system.
Those touches are not flashy, but they are the sort of features that decide whether a countertop appliance feels polished or merely connected. In a category where many rivals still lean on preset temperatures and basic insulation, Xiaomi is pushing the product toward finer control and easier daily use.
Mijia Smart Electric Kettle Pro 5L price
At 5L, this is a large-format thermopot aimed at households that want hot water ready on demand, not just a quick boil for tea. The pricing also telegraphs Xiaomi’s usual strategy: keep the entry point sharp, then use app features and ecosystem hooks to make the appliance feel more valuable than its sticker price suggests.
- Launch price: 699 yuan
- Preorder price: 669 yuan
- Price with subsidies in China: about 568.65 yuan, or $83
The open question is how far that strategy travels beyond China. Smart kitchen gear has struggled to become essential in many markets, but Xiaomi keeps betting that app control, precision heating, and a cleaner hardware design are enough to turn a humble thermopot into a must-have appliance.
