Huawei has introduced the nova Y74 in international markets, and it is exactly the kind of budget phone many buyers still want: big battery, modest screen, simple cameras, and a dose of drop protection. The standout is a 6,620mAh silicon-carbon battery, paired with 40W wired charging and a spec sheet that leans hard toward endurance rather than speed.

Huawei says the Huawei nova Y74 can last up to 24.9 hours of online video playback or about 48 hours of calling on a full charge. A 30-minute charge is rated at about 53%, while a 15-minute top-up should deliver roughly five hours of video playback. That is the sort of battery math that sells phones in markets where power outlets are less exciting than uninterrupted day-long use.

The nova Y74 uses a 6.67-inch LCD screen with a 90Hz refresh rate, HD+ resolution, and brightness up to 850 nits. That is not a premium panel, and Huawei is not pretending otherwise. But it does fit the price bracket the company is clearly targeting, where battery life and usability usually beat sharpness in the shopping list.

There is wet-touch support too, which sounds minor until your screen is covered in rain or sweat and suddenly you are no longer fighting your own phone. The rear camera setup is led by a 50MP main sensor in a square island, while the front camera is 8MP.

Huawei has left one awkward detail hanging: it has not listed the chipset on the official page. That omission is doing a lot of work here, because rivals in this segment increasingly use that missing spec to separate genuinely cheap phones from cheap-but-capable ones. GSMArena suggests it could be a Kirin 8000-series chip, based on its resemblance to the Huawei Enjoy 90 Plus.

Huawei nova Y74 durability and launch outlook

Durability is another part of the pitch. Huawei says the nova Y74 has SGS 5-Star Drop Resistance certification and can survive falls from up to 1.8 meters. That is smart positioning for a budget handset, especially as buyers keep getting less patient with phones that crack after one unlucky slip.

Pricing has not been announced, but the nova Y74 is expected to sit in the budget category as it reaches more markets. The big question is whether Huawei can make endurance and toughness feel like enough in a segment where many competitors now pair similar batteries with faster chips and 5G. For now, the nova Y74 looks built for people who want a phone that lasts, not one that brags.
