Samsung’s next big foldable may be aiming for something rarer than spectacle: practicality. Fresh Galaxy Z Fold 8 leaks suggest the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide will pair a wider inner screen, a lighter build, and a bigger battery, while trimming back camera ambitions a notch.
If the numbers hold, this could be the first Fold in a while that feels designed around everyday use rather than spec-sheet fireworks. A 7.8-inch inner display with a 4:3 aspect ratio and a 5.4-inch cover screen would give the book-style foldable a more tablet-like shape, which should help with split-screen work, reading, and video. Foldables have always promised this, but many still feel a little awkward once you actually try using them like miniature tablets.
Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide weighs less than the Fold 7
The other eye-catching leak is weight. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide is said to weigh 201g, down from 215g on the Galaxy Z Fold 7. That is a meaningful drop for a device class that usually gets heavier as batteries and hinges get more ambitious.
Samsung may be giving up some camera bragging rights to get there. Current reports point to a dual rear setup with a 50MP main sensor and an ultra-wide camera, plus a native 24MP shooting mode. That is a clear step away from the Fold 7’s 200MP main sensor, and it suggests Samsung wants a cleaner split between this wider model and the rumored Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.
Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide rumored specs
- Inner display: around 7.8 inches
- Aspect ratio: 4:3
- Cover display: 5.4 inches
- Weight: 201g
- Battery: 4,800mAh
- Charging: 45W wired charging
- Chipset: Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5
- Memory: up to 16GB of RAM
- Storage: up to 1TB
The crease and the battery are the real tells
Samsung is also reportedly improving the crease, with claims that it could match or even beat what Oppo is doing on its latest foldables. That is the kind of upgrade buyers actually notice after the honeymoon period ends. A flatter inner screen and a larger 4,800mAh battery with 45W wired charging would do more for daily satisfaction than another huge camera number ever could.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 series is widely expected to show up at Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event in London on July 22. Until then, the usual leak warning applies, because foldable rumors love a good tweak on the way to launch. Still, the direction is hard to miss: Samsung seems to be chasing a foldable that is easier to hold, easier to use, and less obsessed with making the loudest possible headline.
