Xiaomi may be joining the growing club of wide foldables, with a new Xiaomi wide foldable leak pointing to a compact, passport-style device that looks much closer to Huawei’s recent approach than to the company’s own Mix Fold 4. The rumored model is being tested under the name Xiaomi 18 Fold, though it could still end up as the Mix Fold 5, and the bigger question is whether Xiaomi is trying to catch up on foldables or finally pick a direction and stick with it.

That shift matters because Xiaomi has been unusually quiet in this category. It skipped book-style foldables in 2025, and recent reports say both the MIX Flip 3 and MIX Fold 5 were canceled before launch. If the leak is right, the pause was less about retreat and more about a reset.

What the Xiaomi wide foldable leak says

The leak comes from tipster Kartikey Singh, who posted that the prototype is moving away from the Mix Fold 4’s taller, narrower design. In its place is a more compact form factor, the sort that makes a foldable feel less like a tiny tablet and more like an oversized phone that happens to unfold.

Singh also said the prototype includes a triple Leica camera setup with a 200MP main sensor. That sounds expensive, because it almost certainly would be, but the tipster also cautioned that the final version may not keep those exact specs.

  • Working name: Xiaomi 18 Fold
  • Possible retail name: Mix Fold 5
  • Reported shape: compact, passport-style foldable
  • Camera leak: triple Leica system with a 200MP main sensor

Xring O3 and a second-half 2026 launch

There is at least one concrete rumor beyond the shape: a second-half 2026 China launch, with Xiaomi’s in-house Xring O3 chip said to be inside. That would fit Xiaomi’s recent push to control more of its hardware stack, a playbook that rivals like Samsung and Huawei have been using for years to reduce dependence on outside chip suppliers and tighten product differentiation.

The naming is still messy. An earlier database listing showed model number 26023PN08C, and that odd ”PN” prefix does not match the Mix Fold line’s usual ”PX” identifiers. Translation: Xiaomi may be building a new foldable family, even if marketing eventually tries to pretend nothing has changed.

Why Xiaomi’s foldable reset matters

The wider shape is the real tell. Huawei has already moved in that direction, Samsung is reportedly following in July with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide, and Apple’s own take is said to be somewhere ahead. Xiaomi arriving late would not be surprising; arriving with the wrong format would be.

Global availability is still the awkward part. Several recent Xiaomi foldables never left China, and nothing in this leak suggests that pattern has changed. If Xiaomi does ship this one broadly, it will be trying to turn a hardware rethink into a real challenge for the foldable leaders. If not, it is just another interesting prototype with a name and a camera spec attached.

For now, the likely next step is simple: more leaks, more naming confusion, and probably a lot of waiting for Xiaomi to confirm whether this is a true Mix Fold successor or the start of something entirely new.
