Russian cosplayer Kristina Fink, known as Kalinka Fox, has brought Marvel’s Elena Belova to life-not the familiar Natasha Romanoff, but the younger, darker second Black Widow. Her portrayal includes a baton and a hard stare that says she’s here for business.

Who is Elena Belova in Marvel Comics?

Elena Belova first appeared in Marvel Comics in 1999, created by writer Devin Grayson and artist J.J. Jones. A native of Moscow, she was recruited by Russia’s military intelligence agency, the GRU, at age 15 and trained in the infamous Red Room-the same brutal program that trained Natasha Romanoff. Elena graduated as the ”top graduate” of the Red Room’s entire history-a feat Natasha herself never achieved.

Originally, Elena served as a foil and antagonist to Natasha. While Natasha acts from moral conviction, Elena operates on ideological grounds. The Red Room programmed her to view Natasha as a traitor and an illegitimate Black Widow. Over time, their relationship evolved-from enemies to reluctant allies.

In combat skills, Elena rivals Natasha: she is a master martial artist, acrobat, and expert with knives, firearms, and tactical gear. Unlike Natasha’s years of espionage across global organizations, Elena is more straightforward and less inclined toward diplomacy, cutting directly to the point with lethal efficiency.

Elena Belova’s role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Florence Pugh portrays Elena Belova, who made her debut in the 2021 film Black Widow. Since then, she has appeared in the Hawkeye Disney+ series and the movie Thunderbolts.

Florence Pugh has turned Elena into one of the MCU’s standout characters thanks to her straight-shooting attitude, wry humor, and a complete lack of dramatics. Where Natasha carries tragedy and self-sacrifice, Elena offers sharp sarcasm and famously complains about her uncomfortable tactical vest.

Kalinka Fox is no stranger to Marvel cosplay. Her previous work includes Starlight from The Boys and a latex-clad Supergirl.
