Oppo’s next Find X phone is being linked to something a bit more unusual than another megapixel bump: a 100MP square selfie camera. According to a new leak, the Find X10 family could be the first to use a 1:1 front camera sensor, a shape that should make selfies less awkward for both portrait and landscape shots without forcing the user to twist the handset like a confused tourist.
The reported setup is said to use a natively customized 100MP small sensor based on a Samsung unit around 1/2.5 inches in size. The same leak ties it to a ”new phone using a 2nm iteration line,” which lines up with the Find X10 series and its expected Dimensity 9600 chip built on a 2nm process. Oppo had previously been rumored to be testing a square front camera, but this is the first leak to point directly at the Find X10 line.
Why a square selfie sensor matters
A 1:1 sensor changes the way the camera crops the scene. Instead of being tuned mainly for vertical selfies, it can capture a wider frame that works better for group shots, video calls, and switching between portrait and landscape without rotating the phone. Apple has already pushed this idea with Center Stage on the iPhone 17 series, but its square front sensor is only 24MP. Oppo, if the leak is right, is aiming much higher on resolution.
That could be the real play here: not just matching Apple, but trying to out-spec it in a category users actually notice. Higher resolution does not automatically mean better photos, of course, but it does give Oppo more room for cropping and framing tricks, which is exactly the sort of thing smartphone makers love to call ”innovation” after a long marketing meeting.
What the Find X10 series may advertise
The leak also says Oppo may talk up ”100MP front and rear multi-focal lengths” for the Find X10 family, suggesting the company wants the whole camera pitch to revolve around flexibility rather than one headline sensor. That would fit the wider trend among Chinese phone brands, which have been leaning hard into camera-heavy flagships as a way to stand out from the usual display-and-battery arms race.
- Front camera: 100MP, 1:1 square format
- Sensor size: around 1/2.5 inches
- Chipset tie-in: Dimensity 9600 on a 2nm process
- Reported camera focus: front and rear multi-focal lengths
Oppo has not confirmed the Find X10 camera yet
For now, this is still a leak, not a product reveal. Oppo has not confirmed the Find X10 camera setup, the square sensor, or the 100MP claim, so all of this should be treated as plausible rather than promised. If the company does ship it, though, the Find X10 could end up being remembered less for raw specs and more for making the front camera useful in ways most phones still don’t bother to attempt.
