Samsung may be reshaping its Galaxy S family again, and the new twist is a model that sounds a lot more sensible than the current naming circus. According to ETNews, the Galaxy S27 series expected in early 2027 could add a Galaxy S27 Pro positioned between the regular model and the Ultra, offering top-tier features in a smaller frame.

That would also mean the current Edge experiment may be on the way out. If the report is right, Samsung is preparing a lineup of Galaxy S27, Galaxy S27+, Galaxy S27 Pro, and Galaxy S27 Ultra – a cleaner hierarchy than trying to make Edge feel premium and distinctive at the same time.

The headline feature is a 6.47-inch OLED display, which would make the Pro noticeably smaller than the Ultra but still a bit larger than the base Galaxy S27. That size alone suggests Samsung wants a flagship for people who like powerful phones but are tired of carrying around tablet-adjacent slabs.

The rumored hardware is even more interesting. The Galaxy S27 Pro is said to inherit Privacy Display, a feature currently available only on the Galaxy S26 Ultra, along with a rear camera system made up of 200, 50, and 50 megapixel sensors – the same setup currently linked to the Galaxy S27 Ultra.

Samsung’s answer to weak Edge demand

This looks like Samsung correcting course rather than inventing a brand-new category. The Edge name never sounded essential, and compact flagships have a better track record when they clearly borrow from the best model in the range instead of pretending to be something else. Apple and Google have both shown there is still demand for smaller premium phones, even if manufacturers keep trying to upsell everyone into giant screens.

The Pro label gives Samsung a neat escape hatch: keep the Ultra halo, trim the size, and remove the S Pen baggage. If the company goes this route, the real question is whether buyers will pay flagship money for a phone that is almost Ultra, or whether Samsung will need to soften the price gap to make the idea stick.
