Mail.Cloud has launched a new feature that allows users to transfer photos and videos from iCloud without using any storage space in their Mail.Cloud account. Additionally, subscribers of MegaFon and Yota will not incur any mobile data charges for transfers made between May 13 and 19.
- Transferred files do not count against your Mail.Cloud storage thanks to unlimited automatic uploads.
- MegaFon and Yota waive all mobile data charges during the May 13-19 period for transfers via the browser or Mail.Cloud app.
- The transfer feature runs automatically in the background once activated, requiring no further user input.
To start transferring, download the Mail.Cloud app on your smartphone, activate the ”Auto upload” option in settings, and your photo gallery will begin syncing automatically. Files are saved to the default main folder in your Mail.Cloud account.
The data exemption by MegaFon and Yota applies regardless of whether you use the browser or the Mail.Cloud app. This week-long free data window enables users to move their entire photo archive without consuming their mobile data plan.
”We understand how important it is to have your cherished photos and videos accessible anytime and on any device. Simple and convenient content upload to Mail.Cloud makes it easy to preserve memories and keep your digital albums organized without spending time on manual transfers and sorting,” said Viktor Petrishchev, head of product at Mail.Cloud.
”Many users have stored years’ worth of photos, videos, and documents on foreign cloud services. To help customers manage, browse, upload, and download their data freely after migrating to a domestic cloud, we launched a special period where data used during transfer won’t count against your tariff,” explained Maria Faustova, director of B2C products at MegaFon.
Russia’s Mail.Cloud competes with Apple’s iCloud and Google Photos as a local cloud storage option, aiming to attract users by addressing data sovereignty concerns and offering perks like free data for transfers and unlimited auto-upload. While Apple and Google do not currently offer data-free migrations or unlimited automatic uploads like this, such regional initiatives highlight how local providers create tailored incentives to attract users away from global tech giants.
