Huawei’s Mate 90 series is set to debut in China this October, with early leaks revealing key details about the Mate 90 Pro Max’s camera setup. The flagship promises notable upgrades, including a larger sensor and improved zoom capabilities.
According to insider Smart Pikachu, the Mate 90 Pro Max will feature a dual telephoto camera system similar to its predecessor. One of the telephoto lenses is expected to offer 10x optical zoom, a significant upgrade from last year’s Mate 80 Pro Max, which had 4x and 6.2x optical zoom lenses.
Huawei is also reportedly considering a large 1-inch sensor for the main camera. This sensor size, common in high-end compact cameras, could significantly boost image quality, promising improved performance for the Mate 90 series overall-though exact specifications remain unconfirmed.
In addition, the phone is expected to feature a flat display, marking a shift from the curved-screen designs favored in previous Mate Pro models.
For comparison, the Huawei Mate 80 Pro Max launched in November 2023 with two 50MP periscope telephoto cameras offering 4x and 6.2x optical zoom, alongside a 50MP main sensor with variable aperture. The Mate 90 Pro Max’s rumored 10x zoom and larger main sensor would enhance its camera capabilities beyond that generation.
