Xiaomi has unveiled its new Redmi Buds 8 true wireless earbuds in China, targeting budget-conscious buyers with a feature set that punches above its price. The earbuds directly compete with the upcoming OnePlus Buds Ace 3 but are expected to cost less, offering an attractive value proposition.
Priced at just 229 yuan (around $33), the Redmi Buds 8 feature active noise cancelling (ANC) that reduces ambient noise by up to 55 dB, adjustable across three levels. For an entry-level pair of wireless earbuds, delivering ANC of this strength is quite impressive.
Sound quality comes from 11mm dynamic drivers featuring multilayer composite diaphragms. The buds support the LHDC V5 codec, which grants them Hi-Res Audio Wireless certification. This codec is primarily supported on Chinese smartphones, so international users may get less benefit unless their device supports LHDC.

The earbuds also offer a personalized listening experience through SoundID, a feature that customizes audio profiles to users’ hearing preferences. For calls, a triple-mic array coupled with AI noise suppression ensures clearer voice transmission in noisy environments.
Each bud weighs about 5 grams and has an ergonomic design aimed at all-day comfort. Battery life is solid, delivering up to 44 hours of total use when combined with the charging case-a strong showing for this price range.
Currently available in China in three colors, Xiaomi is expected to release the Redmi Buds 8 globally soon. These earbuds join a crowded budget segment dominated by brands like Anker’s Soundcore and Realme, but Xiaomi’s combination of ANC and sound features at this price point could give it an edge.
While many budget earbuds offer ANC, Xiaomi’s claim of up to 55 dB noise reduction stands out as particularly aggressive for sub-$35 models. If the global rollout maintains this pricing, the Redmi Buds 8 may pressure competitors to improve ANC performance at entry-level price tiers.
