Yandex Mail has integrated Alice Pro, an AI assistant powered by the generative Alice AI LLM model, to enhance email management. The assistant can analyze email content, draft replies, and fetch relevant information from the open web. Currently, Alice Pro is available to Yandex 360 subscription users, with corporate clients set to gain access later.
- Alice Pro processes email texts along with attachments such as PDFs, documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.
- It performs semantic search rather than keyword matching, using a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) system.
- All data is handled within Yandex 360’s secure environment and is not retained after processing.
Capabilities of Alice Pro in Yandex Mail
Alice Pro can extract facts from emails and summarize information based on user queries. For example, it can calculate fuel expenses from gas station receipts over a specific month or recap meeting highlights from video call transcripts. If asked about contractor details, Alice Pro can locate invoice numbers and tax identification numbers even if the exact word ”details” isn’t mentioned in the email.
”Our inboxes are essentially large personal or work archives containing receipts, tickets, fines, insurance documents, project correspondence, contractor estimates, and much more. Navigating this data can be overwhelming, and that’s where Alice Pro steps in. It doesn’t just find emails or threads with relevant info-it provides ready answers with facts directly in chat,” explains Nikita Anferov, head of Yandex Mail.
Alice Pro also assists with composing emails from scratch, checking spelling, or adjusting tone to sound more formal. For everyday questions like weather forecasts or restaurant recommendations during travel, the assistant pulls data from open internet sources.
Security and AI integration in Yandex Mail
Alice Pro operates exclusively within the protected Yandex 360 environment. It accesses your emails only when prompted and does not save or transfer data after processing. Yandex ensures that mailbox contents are never used to train its AI models.
This isn’t Yandex Mail’s first AI feature: since early 2024, generative neural networks have helped highlight important emails and create concise summaries. Over 80% of Yandex 360 subscribers already use this capability.
Yandex’s move reflects a broader trend among major tech players integrating AI into email platforms. For comparison, Microsoft Outlook and Google Gmail have been experimenting with AI-generated responses and email management tools. However, Yandex’s emphasis on semantic search across email and attachments, plus strict data privacy within its ecosystem, aims to set it apart, especially in Russian-speaking regions.
Looking ahead, how Alice Pro evolves with more advanced contextual understanding and integration into corporate workflows will be key. If Yandex can maintain strong privacy safeguards while expanding functionality, Alice Pro could become a valuable tool for professionals overwhelmed by growing email volumes worldwide.
