Italian cosplayer SambuZ has unveiled a striking series of photos and videos as Leon S. Kennedy from Resident Evil Requiem, perfectly timed with the game’s February 27, 2026, release. The latest installment from Capcom has already sparked excitement among fans worldwide.

Resident Evil Requiem is the ninth main entry in Capcom’s flagship survival horror franchise, and the first major release since 2021’s Village. It splits gameplay between two protagonists: FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft, who oversees classic stealth and resource management, and Leon, who delivers the high-octane action reminiscent of Resident Evil 4.

Leon returns to the franchise in Requiem for the first time in 14 years, excluding remakes. Capcom intentionally designed his segments as a breather after tense episodes featuring Grace. Director Kosin Nakanishi explained that Leon carries the weight of nearly three decades battling bioterrorism-the losses and sacrifices that haunt him. The development team aimed to reflect this exhaustion in his appearance and demeanor.

But don’t mistake weariness for weakness. Facing a chainsaw-wielding infected doctor, Leon deadpans, ”I’d like a second opinion.” It’s classic Leon-someone who’s seen enough horrors to stay unfazed but not so much that he’s lost his dry wit.

Leon’s look in Requiem was meticulously crafted with input from female members of the Capcom team, who paid close attention to every detail-even subtle neck wrinkles. In Japan, fans dubbed him ”ikēoji,” meaning ”attractive mature man.” Western fans just call him a ”hot dad,” and the fandom couldn’t agree more.

SambuZ’s cosplay captures this aged but unbroken agent perfectly-complete with Leon’s signature hairstyle and the classic gaze of someone who’s seen it all and isn’t phased by what lurks around the corner. Fresh cosplays tied to new releases hit harder because the audience already connects with the character’s story and personality.

Resident Evil has been an inspiration for cosplayers since its 1996 debut, with each major release sparking new waves of fan outfits. Requiem offers fertile ground with its two distinct lead characters, varied arsenal, and instantly recognizable style. Leon’s tactical gear and grim charm have made him one of the series’ most cosplayed figures since Resident Evil 4, and the new game has only intensified that trend.

As Resident Evil evolves, Leon’s portrayal in Requiem reveals a character shaped as much by decades of trauma as by resilience and humor. SambuZ’s cosplay doesn’t just replicate his look but conveys the emotional weight that defines this chapter. It will be interesting to see whether future installments continue to explore Leon’s aging hero narrative or pivot to fresh faces in the franchise’s ongoing battle with bioterrorism.
