Huawei’s next Pura phones look set to lean on style again, not just camera muscle. A fresh Huawei Pura 90 leak says the Pura 90 series will bring back gradient rear panels, while the Pura 90 Pro and Pura 90 Pro Max are also tipped to push zoom quality harder than the Pura 80 thanks to a periscope telephoto upgrade.

That gradient finish is old-school Huawei, the kind of visual flourish the company used to sell heavily in the P20 era. It is also a reminder that, in a market where most slabs are converging on very similar glass-and-metal rectangles, design differentiation still matters – especially if the camera story is not yet ready to be fully shown.

Huawei Pura 90 Pro camera upgrades

The more interesting leak is the camera hardware. Huawei is reportedly testing LOFIC technology for telephoto lenses, which could help images hold together in both bright sunlight and low light. If that pans out, it would be a more meaningful upgrade than a simple sensor swap, and the sort of move rivals love to answer with their own incremental ”improvements.”

The timing may not be far away, either. Huawei could hold a Pura Pioneer launch ceremony and introduce new products between 20 and 29 April, so the company is not exactly hiding this in a drawer for later.

Why this Huawei Pura 90 leak gets attention

Ice Universe has earned a reputation for getting major smartphone trends right, from waterfall displays to the iPhone X notch and the iPhone 14 redesign. That track record does not make every leak gospel, but it does explain why a rumor about Huawei’s design choices and camera tech is getting passed around so quickly.

The real question is whether Huawei is aiming for a nostalgia play or a broader reset. Gradient backs are a nice throwback; better telephoto imaging is what would actually make the Pura 90 line harder to ignore.
