Spotify has upgraded its AI-powered Prompted Playlist feature to include personalized podcast playlists alongside music. The streaming giant now lets Premium users craft customized podcast collections using simple text prompts.
The feature first debuted in late 2025 during a New Zealand test run, focused solely on music selection. In 2026, Spotify expanded availability to the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, and Sweden. Premium subscribers in these regions can now create custom podcast playlists in English by typing requests like, ”Make me a true crime podcast playlist with unexpected plot twists.”
To start, users tap ”Create,” select ”Prompted Playlists,” and enter their desired podcast themes. The AI then picks relevant episodes and includes brief explanations for each choice.

Users can customize how often their playlists update, choosing between daily, weekly (with selectable days), or no automatic refresh at all. The update options include:
- Daily updates
- Weekly updates (select your preferred days)
- No updates
Spotify sees this AI feature as a way to simplify discovery and deliver more tailored content. Lizzie Hale, head of podcast editorial at Spotify, says it also opens new exposure opportunities for creators, benefiting both fresh releases and back-catalog gems.
The surge in podcast popularity shows no signs of slowing. Each week, over 34 million podcasts find new listeners on Spotify, which is doubling down on this growth area. For example, the company recently eased monetization rules for video podcasts to attract more creators.
Though still in beta, Prompted Playlist is shaping up as a key part of Spotify’s push into AI-enhanced user experiences, promising smarter, more personalized audio journeys ahead.
