Google has given the Pixel 10a a Japan-only makeover called the Isai Blue edition, turning a routine midrange phone launch into a small design statement. It is already up for pre-order in Japan and goes on sale on May 20, with a single 256GB configuration priced at 94,900 yen (~US$594).
The Pixel 10a Isai Blue edition arrives as the Pixel line hits its 10th anniversary, and Google is leaning on a collaboration with Heralbony, a Japanese company focused on diverse artistic expression. That is the sort of branding exercise phone makers love because it sounds tasteful and exclusive, which is usually marketing for ”we changed the wallpaper and called it a launch.” Here, though, Google has pushed the theme across hardware, software, and packaging.
What makes the Pixel 10a Isai Blue edition different
The name ”Isai” means individuality, which is a fairly on-the-nose way to describe a phone built around artistic customization. Instead of the standard Pixel 10a colors Lavender, Berry, Fog, and Obsidian, this edition uses a blue finish tied to Heralbony’s identity. The result is less ”tech product” and more ”collab merch that happens to make calls.”
Google’s Material You system does the heavy lifting on the software side. The phone includes three themed design sets created by Heralbony artists Shigaku Mizukami, Midori Kudo, and Kaoru Iga, plus nine wallpapers, and the UI automatically adjusts app icons and color schemes to match the chosen look. That kind of live theming is common enough on Android, but Google is clearly using it here as the main selling point rather than hiding it in a settings menu.
Accessories, packaging, and a flatter camera bump
The extras are where this edition tries to feel collector-worthy. The box includes original stickers designed by Nozomi Fujita, with letters and motifs inspired by the Pixel brand, plus a color-matched bumper case that leaves the back visible so the blue finish and stickers stay part of the show.
Google also says the Pixel 10a brings improved front glass durability compared with the Pixel 9a. On the back, the camera layout is now completely flat, which should reduce scratches and drop-related damage. That’s the kind of practical tweak buyers notice long after they forget which artist designed the wallpaper.
The packaging gets the same treatment, with a sleeve featuring artwork by Midori Kudo. For a Japan-exclusive release, that kind of attention makes sense: local special editions have long been a way for phone makers to stand out in a market where design collaborations still carry real weight, even as most global models get more standardized by the year.

The bigger question is whether Google keeps doing this kind of regional tailoring more often, or whether the Isai Blue edition stays a one-off anniversary flourish. If it sells well, expect more Pixel variants that are less about hardware leaps and more about giving the same phone a better story.
