To mark Apple’s 50th anniversary, 8BitDo has unveiled the Retro 68 Keyboard AP50th Limited Edition, a special run of its 68-key retro keyboard. This new version channels the vintage vibes of the Apple II with a distinctive beige and brown color scheme that Apple fans will recognize instantly.

The keyboard is built with an aluminum top plate and aluminum-alloy keycaps. Underneath, it features Kailh Box Ice Cream Pro Max switches mounted on a custom gasket mount, allowing for a softer, more tactile experience. It also supports hot-swappable switches, full N-Key Rollover for accurate key presses, and sports customizable RGB backlighting.

Like other 8BitDo retro keyboards, it includes two programmable ”Super Buttons,” but this time they connect wirelessly. Connectivity options include Bluetooth, a 2.4 GHz wireless mode via the included USB dongle, or direct USB cable connection.

The keyboard’s body features dedicated knobs-one toggles between Bluetooth and 2.4 GHz modes, while the other adjusts volume, offering streamlined control without reaching for the computer.

Powering the Retro 68 is a hefty 6500mAh battery, delivering up to 300 hours of continuous use on a single charge. This generous capacity makes it one of the longest-lasting wireless retro keyboards in its class.

Retro 68 limited edition keyboard celebrating Apple's 50 years

Unlike the previous Retro 68 Keyboard NES 40th Limited Edition, which was limited to Windows and Android compatibility, the AP50th edition supports macOS devices running Tahoe 26 or later. This compatibility is an expected and welcome move for a keyboard styled after an Apple classic.

The Retro 68 AP50th Limited Edition is priced at $499.99. Pre-orders are already open on 8BitDo’s official store, with shipping slated for June 2026. The package includes a protective carrying case and a certificate marking the keyboard as a limited collectible. However, unlike the NES edition, there is no free bonus for pre-order customers this time.

8BitDo has carved out a niche by combining nostalgic design with modern mechanical keyboard features, rivaling established brands like Keychron and Varmilo, who also target Apple users. The Retro 68 AP50th’s focus on wireless versatility, hot-swappable switches, and macOS compatibility positions it as a premium option for both collectors and everyday users craving classic Apple aesthetics.

The big question now is whether 8BitDo will extend this Apple-inspired design language into their other keyboard models or peripherals. As mechanical keyboards become increasingly personalized, limited editions like the Retro 68 AP50th could set a trend for celebrating tech anniversaries. Given the $500 price tag, expect this keyboard to remain a collector’s item rather than a mainstream everyday device.
