Jupiter has announced Picross S: Konami Antiques Collection, a new entry in the Picross puzzle series arriving on April 30 exclusively for Nintendo Switch via the eShop.

The game follows the classic Picross formula: players fill in grid cells guided by numerical clues to reveal pixel art images. This time, the revealed sprites are inspired by iconic Konami titles from the 8- and 16-bit era.

Featuring 585 puzzles drawing on over 80 classic Konami games, the collection spotlights fan favorites like Castlevania, Gradius, Metal Gear, and Contra. It also includes lesser-known gems such as Esper Dream, Jikkyou Power Pro Wrestling ’96, and Wai Wai World 2.

Picross S: Konami Antiques Collection puzzle variety and gameplay modes

The collection includes a wide variety of puzzles and gameplay options to offer hours of challenge:

  • 150 standard Picross puzzles
  • 150 Mega Picross puzzles
  • 5 large Clip Picross images totaling 200 puzzles
  • 30 colorful Color Picross puzzles
  • 5 bonus challenges
  • Time Attack mode with 30 timed trials

While designed for the Nintendo Switch, the game also supports mouse controls, anticipating the next-generation Nintendo console. Traditional button and touchscreen inputs are fully supported as well.

Jupiter’s experience with licensed Picross spin-offs

This is Jupiter’s ninth licensed Picross spin-off, following previous themed releases featuring franchises from Sega, Capcom, SNK, Namco, as well as anime and other popular intellectual properties.

Jupiter is well known for notable puzzle titles, having developed Pokémon Picross, My Nintendo Picross: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and the mobile game Pictlogica: Final Fantasy.

Picross puzzles hold a beloved niche within the puzzle genre, combining nostalgic pixel art with logical deduction. The Konami Antiques Collection taps into retro gaming fans’ love for classic sprites while offering a massive array of puzzles to solve.

The inclusion of mouse support aimed at future Nintendo hardware suggests that Nintendo’s successor to the Switch might embrace flexible input options more broadly. This could signal a shift in Nintendo’s approach to hybrid consoles and indie titles.

Upcoming classic franchise tie-ins in Picross series

Following the trend of legacy gaming brands crossing into puzzle formats, expect Jupiter to continue leveraging nostalgic intellectual properties for future Picross releases. With 585 puzzles spanning many beloved Konami series, this collection sets a high bar for dedicated fans.

The game’s April 30 release on Nintendo Switch adds to a growing library of puzzle games that combine challenging logic with pixel-perfect art-a formula that remains compelling despite the rise of mobile and casual titles dominating the genre.
